It has been almost a year since my husband discovered Noggin for me and my life has certainly been different. I was on a regular schedule of PBS programming in the morning and afternoon. When the children’s shows went off, I’d switch to my collection of children’s DVDs – mainly an assortment of Elmo videos. But discovering Noggin has been the greatest thing ever!
Not only does this channel show absolutely NO commercials, but every show is “educational”. Noggin even identifies the developmental strengths of each show briefly prior to airing. Instead of commercials there will be other educational shorts put in their place. For example: matching games, story time, song time, identifying shapes, counting, and etc. Noggin’s logo is “It’s like preschool on TV”, and truly it is.
My husband and I spend as much one-on-one time with our toddler as possible. Before she was the age of two, she could recite most of the alphabet, identify a few shapes and colors, animals and the sounds they make, and count to twelve. That is just off the top of my head. Since Noggin has been introduced to our lives, I am constantly amazed at what she knows!
One day we went to a Chinese restaurant and she says to our waiter, “Ni hao.” I about keeled over not just of surprise, but of concern how our waiter would take this. Well he thought it was the cutest thing ever! So much so, that he gathered several other waiters, waitresses, kitchen staff and I don’t even know who else, over at our table to get the cute, blonde-haired girl to say “Ni hao” again.
Thanks to Noggin my daughter has learned so much more than I could have ever even thought of teaching her. In some cases, I wouldn’t even of had the time to teach her what Noggin has taught her. Now, my 6 month old even enjoys watching what is aired! If you, or anyone you know, have a child up to the age of 4, I highly recommend this awesome channel!
