I am currently bottle feeding my second child. With my first child, I think I bought at least one of every kind of bottle sold out there until I found my winner – Playtex Ventaire Wide. Ventaire offers a Wide and a Normal sized bottle and nipple. As I had breastfed, I found Wide was the most similar to what the babies were used to, and thus easier for them to drink from.
I chose Ventaire because there are several features to this bottle:
- The most important feature being a filter that is located at the bottom of the bottle. This filter allows air to be brought through it rather than the nipple as you child is eating — almost eliminating bubbles that can cause your child to be fussy with tummy aches.
- As previously stated, the wide nipples are very easy transition from the breast to the bottle.
- The breakdown of the bottle is very simple to allow for complete cleaning so no old, crusty formula milk builds up in the bottle.
I also noticed that my first daughter (remember, whom was exposed to many different bottles at first) spit up after almost every feeding. Once I stuck with Playtex Ventaire these after-feeding spit-ups decreased significantly. My second daughter (whom was strictly on Ventaire from the day we brought her home from the hospital) hardly ever spit up. Any after-feeding regurgitation she has had could be described it as more of a little dribble.
Now I feel that I must tell you the bad with the good. My only complaint is with the Playtex Ventaire is the Playtex Ventaire Advance bottles. When I discovered these I saw that the box touted that they now significantly decreased colic and gas. I thought these new Ventaire Advance bottles would be even more awesome! Truth be told: these bottles have a different type of filter that is placed at the bottom of the bottle and unless you put this new filter in perfectly, the bottle will leak out of the bottom – nice and messy!
